Stuart Pearce reveals transfer work David Moyes is doing behind the scenes at West Ham United

Stuart Pearce has revealed that David Moyes undertook a lot of transfer preparation before the season ended and that the West Ham manager’s phone is “permanently on”.

As revealed by ExWHUemployee revealed on his Patreon on 8 June, the Hammers are still on course to sign 26-year-old Morocco defender Nayef Aguerd.

With news of the Hammers’ first signing edging closer, Pearce was keen to highlight that plenty of work is going on behind the scenes at The London Stadium, and has been for a long time.

Talking on talkSPORT Breakfast [09:18, 10 June], Pearce said: “He [Moyes] has done a lot of work just as the season ended and he certainly did a lot of work that first week or so.

“I think he’s having a bit of a break now but knowing Dave, that phone will be on permanently trying to get players in and improve the squad.”

Gathering pace

West Ham’s transfer dealings are bubbling away in the background at The London Stadium and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a number of signings in quick succession.

Moyes is under no illusions about the rebuilding job that needs to take place at West Ham this summer.

The Irons did superbly to compete in the Premier League and reach the Europa League semi-final but ultimately the club hierarchy need to back Moyes this summer to prevent the Hammers from falling back into mid-table mediocrity.

This season has to be a platform for the club to become a regular top-six contender and secure Europa League football on a regular basis.

If they can get the signing of Aguerd over the line it will provide Moyes with much-needed defensive depth after a leaky end to the season for his backline.

Kurt Zouma and Craig Dawson have been excellent over the course of the season, but ultimately the lack of rest caught up with them.

Let’s hope Pearce is right and that Moyes’ phone remains very much on.

In other West Ham news, a deal is on the cards to sign a forward who Moyes once compared to Wayne Rooney.
