Steve McManaman slams ‘Awful’ decision in West Ham v Manchester United
Steve McManaman slammed the decision to award West Ham a penalty against Manchester United as “awful”.
The London Stadium hosted the Red Devils in the Premier League on 27 October, and the Hammers took all three points in the 2-1 victory.
A stoppage-time penalty from Jarrod Bowen gave Julen Lopetegui’s team their third league win, but McManaman doesn’t believe they should’ve had the opportunity from the spot, speaking on Optus Sport.
“It’s an awful decision, isn’t it? Whether you like Manchester United or not, that’s a terrible decision,” he said.

Lopetegui was under immense pressure coming into the game against Erik ten Hag’s side, and West Ham Zone understands that the Spaniard is under increasing pressure at the club.
A win was the only result that could’ve drowned out the noise off the pitch, and West Ham managed to do precisely that, albeit they were a bit fortunate.
Crysencio Summerville scored his first goal for the Hammers to break the deadlock late on before Casemiro equalised not long after.
Lady luck was on the Irons’ side, though, as Matthijs de Ligt was penalised during the final minutes of the fixture after coming in contact with Danny Ings inside the penalty area.
The contact was minimal at best, and referee David Coote initially waved it off, but VAR advised him to have another look at the incident.
The London Stadium faithful won’t have too many complaints about the decision; however, the team still needs to improve so that fans can fully back Lopetegui again.
