Steve Lomas calls on West Ham fans to end protests against the board
The West Ham United supporters have long been dissatisfied with the board and with the direction the club has been going in under them.
The move to the London Stadium was accompanied by promises of going to the next level, promises which remain frustratingly unfulfilled.
It appears that the Hammers are about as far from reaching the next level as they ever were.
So, the fans’ frustration is understandable. The fact that the Irons are in a relegation battle this campaign has only deepened their misgivings with David Sullivan, David Gold and Karren Brady.
Former West Ham midfielder Steve Lomas, though, feels that the club’s supporters need to halt their protests for the time being.
“Tell me who in the Premier League puts money in without taking something out?,” he asked on talkSPORT.
“Ultimately there have been mistakes made by the board and I think they’ve realised that. I have got sympathy, because I think they thought when they got Manuel Pellegrini… to be honest he’s been a disaster.
“They let him bring in his own director of football, he was a disaster. We are where we are now, and for me it’s a short-term plan.
“I’ve appealed to the fans – I understand their frustrations, they’re not happy with the board – let’s park that.”
Does Lomas have a point?
Not really, to be honest.
It’s simply not realistic to tell the supporters to simply ‘park’ their anger and their frustration with owners who have failed to deliver on anything they promised.
Yes, the Pellegrini appointment looked great on paper and it didn’t work out, which was not necessarily the board’s fault, but there have been many errors which were.
Just because the team are in a relegation battle doesn’t mean the fans can’t be angry – in fact, it’s quite the opposite.
The only way to get rid of these owners is to make your feelings felt, that goes for every West Ham fan, no matter what Lomas says.
