Stan Collymore urges West Ham owners to sell the club ASAP

We all know that West Ham United’s owners, David Sullivan and David Gold, are far from the most popular custodians in the Premier League.

With the Hammers embroiled in an unexpected relegation battle this season, protests against the duo have ramped up.

The supporters are disappointed by the club’s lack of progress since moving to the London Stadium, while the new ground itself is a source of huge frustration for them.

Whether the duo will consider selling anytime soon remains to be seen, but they are certainly feeling the heat at the moment.

Former England international Stan Collymore certainly believes that it’s time for the two Davids to move on.

“West Ham’s owners deserve the criticism coming their way because they have been given every building block needed for success but haven’t delivered,” he wrote in his column for the Daily Mirror.

“So it’s odd that David Sullivan, David Gold and Karren Brady should want to go on the offensive by making broadcast outlets put out apologies for statements made about them rather than continuing to repeat what Gold admitted a few weeks ago when he said, ‘We haven’t delivered, let’s look at ourselves and do better’.

“It feels like the last days of Tom Hicks and George Gillett at Liverpool. It’s time to sell up and for West Ham to move forward.”

Is now the time for the owners to move on?

If you ask most West Ham fans the chances are that they’ll say yes. Certainly things haven’t progressed in the way they all expected them to after the stadium change.

The Hammers are a Premier League club with vast resources at their disposal. They play in the capital, they can offer players big money and they have a fantastic fanbase. Like Collymore says, they’ve got everything going for them.

The fact that the club have made next to no progress under the current owners is a shocking indictment of their tenure.

Things clearly need to change and, while it would be nice if the two Davids moved on, it still seems massively unlikely.

In other West Ham news, the club are reportedly monitoring a young goalkeeper from a European heavyweight.
