Stan Collymore drops David Moyes ‘inevitable’ West Ham United sack verdict ahead of Conference League final v Fiorentina
Stan Collymore has urged West Ham United to sack David Moyes regardless of the outcome of the Conference League final on Wednesday.
The Guardian reported on Friday 2 June that the Hammers could dismiss the Scot even if they win the Conference League when they face Fiorentina on 7 June.
Writing in his latest column for The Sunday People, Collymore has urged the board to part company with Moyes.

“If West Ham are looking to grow as a club, they should be saying thanks for the memories to David Moyes after the Europa Conference League Final, regardless of the result – and move for a progressive, younger manager,” wrote Collymore (pg 58, 4 June).
“Beating Fiorentina would be a nice way to sign off, but remember it’s only the Europa Conference League. I wonder if there is a bit of familiarity there and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get another season if they win. But if they want to grow, this is the time to move on. To keep him would be delaying the inevitable.”
Big call
There’s certainly a big call for the board to make. Many fans will be advocating for Moyes to depart. There’s no doubt West Ham should have performed better on the domestic stage this season. Up until the home win over Manchester United, the Hammers were embroiled in a relegation battle.
Had one or two results slipped through their fingers, there’s a chance they would’ve had a nervy last game of the season against Leicester City. However, the board’s faith in Moyes was somewhat restored. He’s led the club to a Conference League final and ensured their league status.

Their decision to stick by the Scot has been vindicated, particularly when you look at how other clubs have failed during the course of the 2022/23 season. Leeds, Leicester and Southampton have all seen managers come and go. All three will be playing in the Championship next year.
Should the Hammers lose against Fiorentina, another huge decision will have to be made at the London Stadium.
