Spurs could make January move for Issa Diop, Mourinho admirer of West Ham ace – report

Tottenham could make an attempt to sign West Ham United defender Issa Diop during the January transfer window, according to Claret and Hugh.

The reliable source claim on their website that Jose Mourinho is a long-term admirer of the French defender, who has struggled for minutes this season.

Any potential move is being described as “remarkably difficult” this month down to the relationship between the two clubs.

Diop is certainly a wanted man during this month.

French club Nice are also said to be interested, with Alan Nixon of the Sun claiming that they could launch a loan offer with the option to turn it permanent in the summer.

David Moyes has numerous options at the back, and it would be no surprise to see him sanction the exit of the 23-year-old.

Nice and Tottenham offer the defender different outcomes, and a move back to his home nation could be preferable after his tough start to life in the Premier League.

It has been a tough season.

Diop has only played four times in the Premier League under David Moyes, with only three of those being starts for the Irons.

Moyes has preferred Angelo Ogbonna and Fabian Balbuena as his partnership, and Diop didn’t even get the nod when changes were made against Everton and Southampton.

Craig Dawson was brought in, and the fact that a loanee was preferred to Diop shows just how far down the pecking order Diop is right now.

We wouldn’t mind if the Frenchman exit the London Stadium this season, but the Irons must get back what they paid, and also make sure he doesn’t go to one of our nearest rivals.
