Sky Sports pundit urges West Ham United to sign Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah in January transfer verdict
Glen Johnson has urged West Ham United to sign Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal during the January transfer window, telling David Moyes to go and “get him”.
The Hammers were reportedly at the front of the queue to sign the England international during the summer transfer window, when Nektiah had become unsettled at the Emirates following the addition of Kai Havertz [The Sun, 24 June].
Nketiah has started 10 Premier League games for Mikel Arteta this season, but Sky Sports pundit Johnson has urged the Irons to make a move for the 24-year-old and encouraged him to move to the London Stadium.

As quoted by GGRECON (3 January) he said: “I think he’d be a good signing for West Ham and if the money’s right, then it could be a good deal for both parties. Nketiah’s shown a lot of promise and potential, but he’s never been a regular starter for Arsenal.
“For a striker to find their form, they need lots of game time and if Eddie makes the move to West Ham, he’ll probably be playing every week and then he can show everybody what he’s really capable of.
“If West Ham can get him, then they should and if West Ham go for him, then he should go.”
Get him
West Ham need a number nine this month and Moyes could do with a centre-forward that knows the Premier League. Jarrod Bowen has impressed in a central role this season, but he can’t be the Irons only option for the remainder of the campaign.
Neither Michail Antonio nor Danny Ings have managed to find the net regularly enough this season and to show that they are able to start week in and week out in the Premier League and Moyes needs reinforcements.

Nketiah may not be the most prolific of centre-forwards, but he has shown plenty of promise during his short career so far, impressing for Arsenal as they have challenged for the Premier League title in the last few seasons.
It would be a bit of a gamble for Moyes and the Hammers, but Nketiah could well be the difference between qualifying for Europa League football again this season, or a mid-table finish. If West Ham have the money to get this deal done, they should follow Johnson’s advice and make a move.
