Sky Sports News presenter stunned at West Ham board details, ‘Gosh’
Vicky Gomersall was gobsmacked after what Kaveh Solhekol revealed about West Ham United live on Sky Sports News.
Julen Lopetegui has one final chance to save his future in East London in the upcoming clash against Wolves on Monday (9 November) after the 3-1 loss against Leicester City [Fabrizio Romano, 5 December].
Solhekol relayed that information live on air [5 December, 5:06pm] and added some telling information about the West Ham board that left Gomersall in disbelief.
Solhekol said: “This ownership structure has been very, very reluctant to sack managers. They’ve only sacked 14 managers in 14 years.”
Gomersall replied: “Gosh.”
David Sullivan is letting down the West Ham United supporters
The sole reason why Lopetegui has been allowed to continue at West Ham for as long as he has is because David Sullivan is determined to give the Spaniard all the time he needs to succeed in East London [GiveMeSport].
Sullivan has shown no qualms in the past, particularly with former boss David Moyes, in exerting a ruthless approach when it has become apparent that change is needed, but where is this mindset now?
It is undoubtedly part to the “hefty payoff” the West Ham owner would need to fork out to remove Lopetegui from his position [BBC Sport], and another part down to his inability to admit the glaringly obvious – he made a catastrophic error in appointing the Spaniard to begin with.
How many times can Sullivan pull the wool over the supporters’ eyes in claiming the next match will be make-or-break for Lopetegui?

The Guardian reported on 20 November that matches against Newcastle United and Arsenal would determine Lopetegui’s future, and while he pulled off a surprise 2-0 win against the former, he suffered a humiliating 5-2 loss against the latter, and yet he is still in charge – not to mention the loss to Leicester City.
Solhekol’s revelation shows a continued pattern of failure.
With Sullivan leading the decision-making in East London and with Lopetegui all but certain to be another in a long line of managerial misfires, it may be time for someone else within the hierarchy to lead the search for this replacement.
