Sky Sports journalist shares what West Ham United board have told him about David Moyes live from Rush Green
Sky Sports journalist Gary Cotterill shared on Wednesday (22 February) that he was told that West Ham have no intention to sack David Moyes.
Reporting live from Rush Green, Cotterill reported that while the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Rafael Benitez and Thomas Tuchel have been mentioned, he’s “told by the board” that the Hammers are not looking to change their manager in the middle of the season.
The Hammers have dropped into the relegation zone after their 2-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in their previous game, but the club trust Moyes to keep them safe.
Benitez has reportedly turned down the option to join West Ham on a short-term deal [Six Foot Two], and the Spaniard is rather looking for a long-term project. It seems, he is not an option at the moment.
“All the teams around them in the Premier League relegation dogfight have changed managers, but I’m told by the West Ham board that there is absolutely no prospect of David Moyes losing his job as things stand,” said Cotteril to Sky Sports.
“Names are being mentioned, aren’t they – the likes of Pochettino, the likes of Thomas Tuchel, the likes of Rafael Benitez, but I’m told David Moyes would be the kind of manager, that if were they going to make a change, they would bring in to try and make sure they staved off relegation.
“You would go for David Moyes type CV if you’re West Ham at the moment.”
Make sense
This has been a disastrous campaign from West Ham but it doesn’t make sense to bring in a new manager at the moment.
There are still a lot of games left to be played, and the Hammers can turn it around with a couple of wins. The fight at the bottom is very tight, and the tables can change quickly.
Benitez probably would be a decent long-term solution if West Ham genuinely want to replace Moyes in the summer. The Spaniard divides opinion among the fans, and his appointment could be a big gamble.
While there’s no doubt that he is a fantastic tactician, and has prior Premier League experience, he hasn’t earned huge success for a while.

He did win the Champions League with Liverpool and La Liga titles with Valencia but those were a decade back. He did a decent job at Newcastle but proved to be a failure at Everton.
West Ham will face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday (25 February) and they will be looking to bounce back to winning ways.
