Sky Sports journalist: Premier League club have ‘stolen the march’ on Irons for summer deal
West Ham United won’t have much to spend over the summer, that has been made clear already.
David Moyes may have to sell a number of players before being able to sign fresh faces at the London Stadium, much to the disappointment of fans.
The Hammers have recently been linked with Brighton defender Shane Duffy, with the Seagulls happy to let him leave this summer.
It appears as though the Irons have missed out already though with Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett delivering a negative update.
“Looks like West Brom have stolen the march on West Ham in the chase for Shane Duffy,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.
“The Ireland international will be allowed to leave Brighton for the right price, and West Brom are in talks to get the deal done. Moyes keen too, but West Brom in driving seat as things stand.”
West Ham aren’t desperate for defenders as things stand with Fabian Balbuena, Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop available.
The Guardian did report that Balbuena could leave the London Stadium, and if that happens, the Irons will need a replacement.
Duffy has made 96 appearances in the Premier League and would be a great replacement for the Paraguayan with those levels of experience.
To lose out to newly-promoted West Brom would be massively disappointing, and it would certainly not reflect well on David Gold and David Sullivan.
In other West Ham United news, Irons may need to sell this key player in order to spend big this summer
