Simon Jordan baffled why West Ham United would want to part ways with ‘integral’ David Moyes

Simon Jordan has been left baffled as to why West Ham United would want to part ways with David Moyes when his contract expires at the London Stadium.

The Scotsman who is nearly four years into his second spell in charge of the Hammers, is currently free to leave East London when his contract expires at the end of the season, with West Ham waiting to potentially offer him a new deal.

Moyes’ side have started the campaign excellently and currently sit seventh in the Premier League, having won the Europa Conference League last season and Jordan who has been vocal in his praise of the Hammers boss [Daily Mail, 11 October] can’t understand why they wouldn’t tie him down to a new deal.

Speaking on talkSport’s White & Jordan on Tuesday (17 October, 11:43) he said: “You look at the three or four seasons that he’s been back he took them out of a nose dive, then he puts them six, then he puts them seventh, then he wins a European competition after being in a European Cup semi-final the previous year.

“They’ve learned their lessons with David in terms of players that they’ve bought, the clubs making money. There’s a lot about West Ham now that you have to look at and say that’s a pretty decent football club now, it’s punching quite hard.

“I think all things lead to the stability and solidity and achievements of West Ham, not on his own but David has been integral to that so why would you want to change that?

“There will be certain sections of the West Ham fanbase that don’t like his style of football and think there’s another manager in the offing, but look at what he’s done in the last three and a half years.”

West Ham are playing it safe in terms of all their contract negotiations this season and that is a fair approach for the Hammers to take, after all, they don’t want to tie Moyes down to a new deal only for results to trail off and be left with a manager that they don’t want.

But given what the former Manchester United coach has achieved at the London Stadium, he is deserving of a longer contract and probably should be rewarded for his achievements in the last few years with an extended deal sooner rather than later.

The Hammers could look to appoint a younger more dynamic manager to get more out of the talented players at their disposal with a more exciting style or play, but there is little to no guarantee that it would be anywhere near as successful.

You would have to imagine that should West Ham continue to impress under Moyes in the coming weeks and months, it won’t be long until Jordan and the majority of Hammers supporters get their wish and the former Everton boss will get a new deal.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers appear to be out of the race to sign Kalvin Phillips after a January update
