Report: Sheffield United midfielder could miss clash v West Ham due to government standoff
Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge may miss his team’s clash with West Ham as his national side are caught in a ‘political storm’ with their own government, according to Yorkshire Live.
The 22-year-old has started all but one of the Blades’ Premier League games this season and he is a player of huge importance to Chris Wilder’s side.
But he may not be available for next weekend’s match against the Hammers, Yorkshire Live reports.
They report that the entire Norway squad, of which Berge is a part of, are being stopped from leaving the country by Norway’s health ministry.
This follows news that one member of Norway’s squad tested positive for COVID-19 in the last few days. Yorkshire Live understands that Norway’s health ministry wants to put the entire squad in isolation.
If this occurs it means Berge would be unavailable for the clash against West Ham next Sunday.
This would provide a boost for David Moyes’ side as they look to continue their good form in the Premier League.
Berge has registered one goal and one assist in the league this season from central midfield. He scored his goal at Anfield in his side’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool, beating Allison with a first-half penalty.
He hasn’t missed a minute of league football since he started against Aston Villa in the Blades’ second game of the season and his absence will be a blow to a poor Sheffield United side who are yet to win this season.
There could be a space on the bench at Bramall Lane for Hammers forward Michail Antonio according to Claret and Hugh, as he looks to have returned from injury a lot quicker than first anticipated.
We’re sure he would love to get some minutes under his belt and he could cause havoc against a poor Blades team missing one of their key men.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes is open to letting one of his youth prospects leave the London Stadium on loan in January.
