Senior Fulham sources share big-money West Ham United transfer update on Joao Palhinha

“Senior sources at Fulham” say they are using West Ham United’s £100million Declan Rice valuation as a benchmark Joao Palhinha, reports the Daily Mail.

The West Londoners have slapped a “remarkable” £90million price tag on the 27-year-old midfielder, who has caught the eye of the Hammers (Daily Mail, 20 June).

It’s understood the figure won’t be met, with potential suitors potentially looking to test Fulham at the £50million mark.

Wow

Fulham cannot be serious on this one.

If the 27-year-old was in his early 20s and performing to this level, then there could be an argument – but to compare him to Declan Rice is nonsensical.

Firstly, Rice is just a better player. End of. There’s no comparing the two. The West Ham captain has performed to a high level for a number of years and has represented his country in some of the biggest matches on the international stage.

Palhinha has enjoyed one good season in the Premier League and is considerably older.

Marco Silva’s side are clearly unwilling to sell and you cannot blame them. He’s been an important part of their success.

But, as we know, every player does have a price – and if a fee of £50million arrives Fulham would be made to turn the offer down.

He would be a decent replacement for Rice, but there could be better elsewhere. If and when the 24-year-old does depart, the board must attempt to bring in one or two replacements for the England international.

It’s going to be a massive void to fill.
