Senior figure claims to be ‘surprised’ by reported West Ham link
Alan Stubbs has quelled claims that he is set to join West Ham as David Moyes’ assistant.
A report from the Edinburgh Evening News made over the weekend suggested that the ex-Evertonian was poised to reunite with his former Toffees’ boss in east London.
But Stubbs has suggested that he has no idea where the rumours have come from.
The former defender was a guest on the latest episode of Ladbrokes’ Social Club, and was introduced by host Darrell Currie, who said: “I sound slightly surprise, because if you look at the papers, you’re off to West Ham, aren’t you?”
Stubbs responded: “I’m surprised as well.
“There’s no story. I’ve heard nothing and that is the truth.”
Would Stubbs be a good appointment?
Unless he’s fibbing for the sake of confidentiality, it would appear that Stubbs is genuinely in the dark over the gossip surrounding him.
It sounds very much as if somebody has seen Moyes at West Ham, seen the former defender out of work, and put two and two together to get five.
That being said, if there is any truth in it, or if West Ham decide to make an offer to Stubbs in the coming days or weeks, they could probably do a lot worse.
A trusted general of Moyes’ during the best spell of his career back at Everton, it makes perfect sense for the Scot to have the people he believes in most around him if he is to have a good go at a serious stint at the helm.
Stubbs might not be in the loop, but perhaps he should be.
