Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca open to leaving club amid West Ham United transfer link

West Ham are monitoring Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca, according to a report from The Athletic.

The Hammers are likely to face competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Arsenal. Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are also in the mix to sign him.

The 23-year-old is open to playing outside of Italy, and he remains a feasible option for the aforementioned clubs.

Worth trying

The Hammers need to sign a striker this summer, having failed to bolster that area in their previous three transfer windows.

Michail Antonio remains the only striker at the club, and he needs competition up front. It will be a catastrophe for the club if they fail to add a quality player in that department.

Scamacca would be a decent signing for the club. He joined Sassuolo in 2017 and spent loan spells elsewhere before cementing his position in the side last season.

He scored 16 goals in the Serie A last season (2021-22) and has already made five appearances for the Italy national team.

Sassuolo are looking to ship out players like Domenico Berardi, midfielder Hamed Traore and forward Giacomo Raspadori. If they manage to do that, they would be reluctant to sell the striker.

He has a contract at the club until 2026, and the Hammers may need to pay a decent amount to get his signature.

However, in all probability, David Moyes will look to sign players who have prior experience playing in the Premier League.
