Sam Matterface slams West Ham United fans live on talkSPORT in ‘why on earth’ verdict
Sam Matterface has questioned West Ham fans for giving Nayef Aguerd a standing ovation following his red card against Chelsea.
The defender picked up two yellow cards as his side defeated the Blues 3-1 in the Premier League on Sunday (20 August).
Aguerd scored West Ham’s opener at the London Stadium after just seven minutes as he headed home from a James Ward-Prowse corner.

The Moroccan international was booked six minutes later, before receiving his marching orders in the 67th minute after his second yellow card.
“Why on earth Nayef Aguerd got a standing ovation when he left the pitch I don’t know, because it was a reckless challenge and a silly one from him,” Matterface said live on talkSPORT.

Let off the hook
Aguerd got West Ham fans off their seats not long after the first whistle with his well-placed header from Ward-Prowse’s expert delivery, with the defender scoring his third goal in claret and blue.
It proved to be key as the hosts ran out 3-1 winners on a sunny afternoon at the London Stadium, but they certainly weren’t helped by their defensive ace in the second half.
Aguerd picked up a needless second yellow card with over 20 minutes to go, putting his side under huge pressure against a very attacking Chelsea side.
But West Ham boss David Moyes managed the remaining minutes expertly, bringing on defensive cover in Angelo Ogbonna, who replaced attacker Said Benrahma.
Ogbonna and his fellow defenders then put in a huge shift at the back to maintain their 2-1 lead right until the closing seconds, when Lucas Paqueta netted a penalty to secure the 3-1 win.
