Sam Matterface shares concerning West Ham United stat as Everton prediction made

Sam Matterface predicts West Ham United will have to settle for a draw against Everton on Saturday.

Julen Lopetegui is under increasing pressure in East London following the 3-0 loss against Nottingham Forest last weekend and is facing yet another must-win clash at the London Stadium [9 November].

However, Matterface while predicting the result live on talkSPORT [8 November, 7:45am] revealed the Hammers have one of the worst defensive records in the division heading into the match and believes their defensive vulnerability will ultimately be their downfall.

He said: “West Ham have conceded 19 goals this season, the joint-most they’ve conceded in this stage of the Premier League they can’t continue to do that.

“They have won their last two games at the London Stadium, they do need a win here but so do Everton they’ve won just once in their last 16 away games. It’s got to be a draw for me I’m going to go 1-1.”

Julen Lopetegui is facing a defensive crisis at West Ham United

The Spaniard has struggled to identify his ideal pairing in central defence and will be none the wiser as his decision to start all three senior centre-backs against Nottingham Forest backfired to the greatest degree.

West Ham struggled to contain the in-form Chris Wood at the City Ground as the defensive display was deemed “disgusting”, as a Forest side not much better on paper, showed the Hammers supporters what a team under a competent manager should look like.

Max Kilman has found himself as the undisputed option in East London despite not producing the form to warrant such a bestowed display of trust, he will surely be the most impacted player in the squad should Lopetegui be dismissed from his role.

Decisions such as this, have played a huge factor in Lopetegui finding himself in the position he is in and could be touted as a determining factor as to why the Spaniard has essentially lost the dressing room at the London Stadium.

However, his team selection must be spot on against Everton to stand any chance of securing the three points on Saturday, unfortunately, the supporters have all but given up on the hope that Lopetegui can prove to be the man to lead the side for the foreseeable future.

No matter who is chosen to face Sean Dyche’s side, the atmosphere around West Ham is bleak, while a result could appease the fanbase heading into the international break, the side will be back to square one once club football resumes – change is needed now.

In other West Ham news, Julen Lopetegui must make brave Jean Clair-Todibo call for the Irons against Everton.
