Said Benrahma now in talks to receive West Ham United pay off as Fulham offer tabled

There is now confidence at West Ham that Said Benrahma’s deadline day move to Lyon will be completed, according to Jack Rosser.

The Sun newspaper journalist shared on his personal X account (1 February) that talks are now commencing over a potential payoff for Benrahma to officially quit the London Stadium.

There had been late interest from Premier League rivals Fulham who were looking to hijack the move (Santi Aouna, 1 February) but West Ham do not want to sell to a rival and the player wants a move away from London.

Rosser posted: “Confidence that Said Benrahma to Lyon will get over the line, just down to talks over a pay-off from WH now.

“There had been interest from Fulham who offered a good contract but WH don’t want to sell to a Premier League rival and Benrahma doesn’t want to stay in London.”

Sigh of relief

The Hammers are certainly happy to allow Benrahma to leave the club despite their limited options in attack and that can tell fans all they need to know about how he’s been viewed at West Ham recently.

With Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus and even Pablo Fornals who’s linked with a move away also all preferred to him, the Algerian has made five league starts and when given the opportunity by David Moyes, he’s flattered to deceive every time.

A fee of over £15m for a player who hasn’t enjoyed a decent 90-minute display for the club is an excellent business but the Algerian’s hesitancy in leaving was becoming a huge problem for a club wanting to offload.

However, it seems that all that is left for Benrahma to leave is a payout given his contract runs out in 2026 so the player is well within his rights to demand as such and let’s hope talks are amicable.

Both parties desperately need to part ways given his struggles at the club over the past year but whether that can be completed in time for the Hammers to seal a replacement is another matter entirely.

In other West Ham news, one Hammers player has agreed to take a wage cut in order to force through an exit before the transfer deadline.
