Said Benrahma finally decides on Lyon transfer as West Ham United star jets out of UK – David Ornstein
Said Benrahma has travelled to France ahead of completing a switch from West Ham to Lyon, according to David Ornstein.
The Athletic’s football correspondent revealed via X (1 February) that an agreement has been reached between the Hammers and their Ligue 1 counterparts over a deal worth £17million made up of a loan fee and a buy option.
Benrahma himself has now also given the green light for the move having travelled to France.
There remain some complications between West Ham and the player, but Lyon are confident a deal will be reached before the transfer window shuts tonight.
Needed
This is a move which will benefit all three parties involved.
Lyon will add some attacking depth to their squad on Deadline Day, West Ham can get a player off the books who hasn’t been in David Moyes’ plans this season, and Benrahama can get back on the pitch and playing his football again.
It has been a poor season for the former Brentford man. He has featured in just 615 minutes of the club’s Premier League season so far, making just six starts, and providing one assist in that time.
He will hope that he can rediscover the form which made him such an exciting prospect when he first arrived at The London Stadium upon his arrival in France.
Should he hit those heights, Lyon may then be keen to make his stay permanent, which would see West Ham recoup almost the entire fee which they paid to Brentford to sign the Algeria international.
In other West Ham news, the club have made a Deadline Day decision over the signing of a new striker.
