Said Benrahma did Lyon photoshoot before West Ham United paperwork clanger, he’s furious and family are ‘stunned’
West Ham forward Said Benrahma is “furious” and his family are “stunned” after his last-gasp transfer to Lyon fell through, according to L’Equipe.
The French news outlet reported on (2 February) that the player and his family are furious and stunned at how the events unfolded, with Lyon themselves in a state of shock and expected to release a statement in the next hours in which they may announce an appeal to FIFA (Fabrizio Romano, 2 February).
The Algerian winger, 28, had been set to move on loan to the French side on transfer deadline day after the two clubs had agreed on a loan deal worth before Benrahma travelled to France to complete the move only and had done a photoshoot only for it to breakdown after the deadline struck.
The Hammers confirmed in the early hours of Friday that a move was “unable to be completed before 11pm”.
Lyon subsequently accused the Premier League side of not taking the required action to complete the deal.

This is a real dramatic turn by West Ham who looked to have sabotaged Said Benrahma’s move on purpose all because they didn’t find a replacement.
Whether that is the case or not, it certainly appears that way and Lyon are very right to be perplexed at what’s happened because it all seemed like they had their man.
Benrahma desperately needed a new lease of life elsewhere after what’s been a struggling period at the club but now that has been derailed by West Ham’s apparent hesitancy at submitting the required documentation necessary.
What’s strange is that the Algerian forward travelled to France well in time for the deal to be completed, he looked to have done his medical and everything so how things failed at the last hurdle is very suspect.
West Ham and the Premier League certainly have some questions to ask as to how this move failed at the last hurdle. Benrahma and his family are well within their right to feel the way they do after a complete waste of a brand new opportunity.
