Ruud van Nistelrooy mooted as Julen Lopetegui replacement at West Ham United

Darren Bent has shared his view after Manchester United caretaker manager Ruud van Nistelrooy was mooted as a potential Julen Lopetegui replacement at West Ham.

The Dutchman has taken temporary control at Old Trafford before Ruben Amorim takes over after the international break, and it remains to be seen if the Dutchman will remain as part of the staff.

Lopetegui, on the other hand, has recently taken control at the London Stadium, though the transition from David Moyes’ tenure has been far from smooth in the opening games of the new campaign.

Darren Bent was speaking live via talkSPORT [4 November] about van Nistelrooy’s potential next move after Man United, with Andy Goldstein adding: “There’s West Ham…”

Bent continued: “He might be going, ‘Do you know what? If I just do a good job, who knows? The footballing world is massive so I might get another manager’s job.'”

Ruud van Nistelrooy to West Ham United?

It would certainly be interesting to see the general consensus over a possible move to bring van Nistelrooy to East London, given his lack of experience in a managerial role.

However, his short spell as Man United boss has been quite positive, beating Leicester City 5-2 in the EFL Cup and drawing 1-1 with Chelsea, providing much more hope than Erik ten Hag’s last games in charge.

Fans at the London Stadium are becoming more and more frustrated by the manner of defeats under Lopetegui, with the Hammers only winning three of their 10 Premier League matches this term.

Water continues to rise around Lopetegui’s ankles, with more fans turning on the Spaniard despite only being in charge for a matter of months, but there are only a few options who could take over if a decision was made.

The passionate fans have every right to be frustrated by their club’s current position but replacing Lopetegui with van Nistelrooy is unlikely to fix the current problems at the London Stadium.
