Ruben Amorim visits David Sullivan at home for West Ham United manager talks
Ruben Amorim visited David Sullivan at his home as the pair discussed the possibility of the Sporting CP boss making the move to West Ham, according to Record.
The Portuguese newspaper reported in its print edition [24 April, page 3] that the meeting did not excite either party as they were split by differences in their vision and project.
It was explained that Sullivan had reservations over the boss’ perceived inexperience and expressed his displeasure at the leaked image of the manager at Stansted Airport.
David Sullivan not happy with Ruben Amorim after West Ham meeting
The issues separating the two appear to rest with the club’s project – which Amorim reportedly did not buy into – and Sullivan’s perception of the boss, both his experience in the game and the fanfare surrounding him.
The idea that Amorim is somehow inexperienced must only be in comparison to the wealth of experience Moyes brought to the job. The Portuguese boss has been managing senior teams since 2018, including several European campaigns with Sporting since he joined in 2020.
Managing one of Portugal’s biggest clubs should be enough experience in itself, but having managed them to one league title, two League Cup trophies and a Supercup victory, it is difficult to see how Sullivan’s assessment was made.

With Moyes’ future still very much unconfirmed despite the reports of vetting new candidates for his role, it now seems inevitable he will leave his job this summer, but Amorim will not be the man to take over.
