Ruben Amorim spotted at airport as West Ham United fly in priority David Moyes replacement

West Ham have flown in Sporting boss Ruben Amorim for talks on a private jet supplied by the club, according to CNN Portugal.

The outlet reported via their website on 22 April that the Hammers owners had brought the manager to England for a meeting, after he was spotted boarding a plane with business man Raul Costa earlier the same day via Universo Sporting on Twitter.

Sporting reportedly trained earlier on Monday but with two days off before they return to preparations for facing Porto the Portuguese then jetted out to meet with West Ham.

David Ornstein had reported via The Athletic earlier the same day that Amorim, under consideration to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, has now emerged as the leading target to follow David Moyes at the London Stadium.

Liverpool target the next man in at West Ham?

Irons fans may be thankful that the club’s hierarchy appear to finally be taking something resembling decisive action on their manager situation.

For the best part of 18 months speculation has swirled around Moyes’ future, after a Premier League relegation battle last season was papered over by the historic Europa Conference League victory in May.

An apparent inability to find any candidates they deemed suitable all last term, before flip-flopping on a new deal for the Scot this season has given the impression of a club who don’t have a plan.

The line from the club has routinely been that the final decision on the West Ham boss’ expiring deal won’t be made until after the campaign concludes, which unhelpfully leaves Moyes looking like a lame duck at the London Stadium, especially with moves seemingly now being made to replace him.

But, having let it get this far, it is at least something that the Hammers appear to starting to make a decision, which is perhaps not surprising after a miserable 5-2 defeat at Crystal Palace on Sunday.

West Ham manager David Moyes
David Moyes will manage West Ham United for the final time against Manchester City on May 19.

If Moyes does now leave in the summer it will have been after a needlessly-undignified final campaign shrouded in uncertainty over the future direction of the club.

But, this being West Ham, it is impossible to be certain of the next step even when everything has pointed towards the board being ready to move on for some time.
