Ruben Amorim slammed by Simon Jordan live on talkSPORT after West Ham United meeting
Simon Jordan has hit out at Ruben Amorim after the Sporting CP boss met with West Ham to discuss taking over from David Moyes at the London Stadium.
This comes after Amorim, following a meeting with David Sullivan, issued an apology to the Sporting CP supporters, insisting he had made a mistake by going to London.
Jordan insisted he would not have allowed the manager to go and speak to other clubs just to come back when he didn’t agree with them, labelling the decision “outrageous”.
Speaking live on talkSPORT [30 April, 11:27], Jordan ranted: “He’s saying it’s a mistake because he’s been found out doing it. Clearly, he felt there was an opportunity to leave. I don’t really understand the issue besides optics.
“If his club are prepared to allow him to speak to another football club, where is the problem? The Sporting management should be the ones apologising.
“As a former football club owner, there is no parallel universe in which I would allow my manager to wander off and talk to West Ham. They would have to come to me and ask for my permission, and I would have said no, I want to keep my manager.
“The idea that Sporting’s directors are quite happy for their manager to sachet off, not fancy West Ham, and come back and manage Sporting, I think is outrageous. It’s outrageous that he’s been allowed to do that by his club.”
Simon Jordan slams Ruben Amorim for West Ham meeting
Jordan’s rant comes despite Amorim having agreed with Sporting to make the trip and visit Sullivan at his home, but as he insisted, the optics of the situation are likely the main reason he felt necessary to issue an apology to the supporters.
The issues separating Amorim and West Ham appear to rest with the club’s project – which Amorim reportedly did not buy into – and Sullivan’s perception of the boss, both his experience in the game and the fanfare surrounding him.
It is important to note that West Ham are not an innocent party in this situation, with David Moyes’ future still unclear despite the meeting with Amorim and reported talks with former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui going on for “months”.

It has also been said that the Hammers remain keen on appointing Amorim as their top target, with conflicting reports raising questions about who will take over should Moyes leave when his contract expires this summer.
