Ruben Amorim ‘problem’ emerges for West Ham United as £13m compensation shared
West Ham remain keen on hiring Ruben Amorim to replace David Moyes, but his £13million compensation fee will be a problem, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist reported via his Patreon on 28 April that, having met with the Hammers board already, the compensation payment would be an issue should they decide to progress with his hiring.
This comes following Amorim’s apology to the Sporting CP fans as he admitted travelling to London was a “mistake” following his meeting with the Hammers [Fabrizio Romano, 27 April].
Could Ruben Amorim still join West Ham this summer?
Despite the apology made to his current club’s fans, and reports that the meeting in London did not go as planned for either party, NIxon’s report suggests Amorim still represents an option to replace Moyes at the London Stadium.
This comes after Amorim met with David Sullivan personally at his house to discuss their plans, although those talks are not thought to have been positive.
It has been said that the issues separating Amorim and West Ham appear to rest with the club’s project – which Amorim reportedly did not buy into – and Sullivan’s perception of the boss, both his experience in the game and the fanfare surrounding him.
Those issues, on top of the £13million compensation fee which would free him from his contract at Sporting, suggest talks over Amorim’s appointment are unlikely to go any further.

With Moyes’ future still very much unconfirmed despite the reports of vetting new candidates for his role, it now seems inevitable he will leave his job this summer, but Amorim is unlikely to be the man chosen to take over.
