Ross Barkley’s wage demands stopped West Ham making a move for him

West Ham did not make a move for Ross Barkley because of his £100,000 per week wages, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

They claim that the Hammers and Newcastle United were interested in signing the England international, but his wages proved to be a “stumbling block”, and he is now stuck at Chelsea.

David Moyes was in charge of Everton when Barkley made his breakthrough, and he went on to make 18 appearances for the Scotsman, so it is no wonder that the Hammers were interested in Barkley.

West Ham miss a trick?

The 27-year-old has bags of Premier League and international experience, and you would think he would have been motivated as he looks to get his career back on track.

He has also been described as “outstanding” by the BBC in the past and could have been a good addition to Moyes’ squad.

However, the Irons signed Nikola Vlasic and Alex Kral instead of Barkley, who are both younger than the former Everton player.

So, it remains to be seen if the Hammers have made a mistake by not making a move for Barkley, but given his wage demands, you could argue that he wouldn’t have been worth the hassle.
