Roshane Thomas shares unfair scrutiny of West Ham United ace Said Benrahma

Roshane Thomas has highlighted the unfair criticism that West Ham ace Said Benrahma has received this season after his display against Norwich.

The Algeria international scored a brace as David Moyes’ side swept already relegated Norwich away 4-0 at Carrow Road on Sunday [May 8].

The former Brentford man has had an uneasy relationship with Hammers fans since making his permanent £20million move across London in 2021.

With many calling for the forward to be more consistent, The Athletic journalist rubbished the claims, focussing on how much he has improved.

He said on Twitter: “Ten goals and six assists in all competitions for Benrahma so far this season.

“He only scored three goals in 2020-21. Some will argue he needs to be more consistent but he’s definitely improved this season.”

More to come.

Benrahma is a hugely talented player but he can be so frustrating at times. Take Norwich for example – he was excellent, one of the best players on the pitch with nobody able to get near him all afternoon.

Admittedly it was against a team who have already given up after their relegation was confirmed but a Premier League team, for now, nonetheless.

He has shown so many signs of what he is capable of during his first season with the Irons and the fans have found themselves frustrated with the 26-year-old when he fails to maintain those levels.

As Thomas proved, he has already heavily improved on the levels he had shown last season whilst on loan with the Hammers.

In this campaign he has been much more consistent in front of goal, notching a rather impressive tally with a couple of games still to play.

Irons fans simply need to be patient – they can’t expect a player to be at his best every game and the attacker has so much room to improve, they just need to let him.
