Roshane Thomas notices Vladimir Coufal kick out in frustration at FT v Everton

West Ham fell to a 1-0 home defeat to Everton and Vladimir Coufal could not hide his frustration with the result at full time.

Athletic journalist Roshane Thomas noticed the full-back kicked a ball away in frustration when walking off the pitch, clearly upset at missing a big opportunity to close the gap to Leicester in fourth place.

The Hammers are now five points off the top four and suddenly looking over their shoulder at Everton and Liverpool, who are also competing for the Europa League qualification places.

Covering the match on Twitter, Thomas wrote, “Vladimir Coufal was one of the last players to leave the field and kicked the ball in frustration.

“Can imagine he was thinking about that miss.”

This one hurts

West Ham huffed and puffed but they just could not find a way through a stubborn Everton side that sat behind the ball after taking the lead.

It was a tough match made more difficult by injuries to Manuel Lanzini and Aaron Cresswell, and the result is a crushing blow so late in the season.

West Ham

We cannot fault the effort on display and on another day Coufal’s second-half strike would have found the bottom corner instead of hitting the post.

He is understandably frustrated at not being able to help the team to at least a point, but he and his teammates can hold their heads high.

The Irons still have a chance to make a success of this season and if we bounce back over the next three games we can still make Europe – that was unthinkable at the beginning of the season.
