Robinson impressed by reported West Ham bid
West Ham United’s January transfer window kicked into top gear on Wednesday with the signing of goalkeeper Darren Randolph from Middlesbrough.
The 32-year-old Republic of Ireland international moved back to the London Stadium for an undisclosed fee.
That, you’d think, would be that with regards to the club’s pursuit of a ‘keeper this month.
However, former England international Paul Robinson feels that the Hammers could still bring in Cardiff City shot-stopper Neil Etheridge after their recent bid for him.
“It seems they need two keepers, that’s what they’re obviously looking at,” he told Football Insider. “They’re clearly unhappy with what they’ve got, the re-occurrence of [Lukasz] Fabianski’s hip injury, it’s gonna be a while as hips aren’t a quick fix.
“And by looking at Etheridge and Randolph, it’s a clear sign they’re looking at two keepers, Etheridge is a good keeper, he’s experienced and everything else.”
Is Robinson right about two ‘keepers?
You wouldn’t have thought so, would you? Why would the Irons bring in two goalies when they now have four senior ones on the book?
Even if you write off Roberto, which most people do, they still have Fabianski, Randolph and David Martin. That’s a great trio in terms of first, second and third choice stoppers.
So why would they need Etheridge, really? This is a bit of a weird suggestion from Robinson.
In other West Ham news, the club have received an injury boost ready for Saturday’s clash with Everton.
