Rob Newman role to be diluted with new West Ham United hire just weeks away
David Moyes and David Sullivan will hold a debrief on this past West Ham season on Friday with the head coach set to be informed of some infrastructural changes the club plan to make this summer, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The 8 June report states that West Ham plan to appoint a director of football to work alongside current sporting director, club legend Mark Noble.
This appointment is due to be made in the coming weeks, which will likely see the club’s head of recruitment, Rob Newman, have his role “diluted”.

Newman is reportedly a close ally of current manager Moyes, and it is not yet clear whether these restructuring decisions will become a factor in Moyes’ decision to stay or leave the Hammers.
Following on from his first major trophy as a manager, Moyes has privately considered the possibility of walking away, with the idea of doing so on a high reportedly appealing to the 60-year-old.
Moyes’ future in doubt
There was a point in the season when some West Ham supporters were calling for Moyes’ head – now, the manager is a legend who holds hero status and might just be the greatest manager in the club’s history.

He is certainly the greatest in the Premier League era when you consider his sixth and seventh-placed finishes as well as a Europa League Semi-Final and of course the Conference League victory.
If the former Manchester United manager wants to walk away with his head held high, he is more than earned the right to do so.
West Ham’s reported infrastructural changes show the club is thinking forward and want to build on this European victory for the future – however, if that thinking involves the dilution of one of Moyes’ allies’ roles at the club, then that could push him towards the exit door.
Moyes is currently a West Ham hero, and sometimes it is better to walk away a hero than stick around long enough to become the villain.
