Rob Hawthorne slams West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta for ‘Totally Unnecessary’ incident v Everton

Sky Sports commentator Rob Hawthorne has slammed Lucas Paqueta for his yellow card offence for West Ham against Everton.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Main Event (29 October, 02:31 pm), Hawthorne blasted the “totally unnecessary” challenge from the Brazilian, who saw the card for dissent in the 69th minute at the London Stadium, while co-commentator Alan Smith agreed.

Paqueta will now miss the Hammers’ upcoming Premier League clash against Brentford on Saturday 4 November following the 1-0 defeat to the Toffees after picking up his fifth yellow of the season.

Hawthorne said: “That’s his fifth yellow card of the season. It was totally unnecessary and it will deprive David Moyes of his services for the Brentford match.

Smith replied: “Yeah, he’s kind of a frustrating figure at times out there.”

Frustrating

The shine of West Ham’s early-season success has well and truly worn off after three consecutive defeats in all competitions.

Everton put on a defensive masterclass in typical Sean Dyche fashion to blunt the Hammers at the London Stadium, but they will find returning winning ways even harder without Paqueta.

Edson Alvarez will also miss the clash against the Bees, meaning Moyes will have a tough task ahead of him away from home.

Hammers fans will feel very frustrated by the nature of Paqueta’s booking. Dissent is probably the most easily avoided offence in the game, but the 26-year-old’s temper got the better of him.

He is picking up a bad habit of conceding late bookings, with four of his five bookings this season coming after the 69th minute.

Pressure will be on Moyes even more now, but selfishly he may be thankful for a relatively valid excuse if he can’t change the Hammers’ fortunes.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign a forward dubbed “incredible” by Neymar as his club wants to sell him.
