Rio Ferdinand keen on Scott McTominay move to West Ham, ‘definitely’ should have left Manchester United
West Ham United should have bought Scott McTominay this summer as he “doesn’t play” often for Manchester United, according to Rio Ferdinand.
Talking on his podcast on the FIVE YouTube channel (12 September), Ferdinand suggested the Scotsman should have made the move to the Hammers, with Sky Sports claiming (8 August) that the Red Devils rejected £30million for the international earlier this summer.
McTominay, a player that Micah Richards called “really intelligent” on The Rest is Football Podcast, has struggled for game time at Old Trafford, but has shined for Scotland in their Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Ferdinand said: “If I was West Ham I would’ve bought him, definitely. McTominay is another one who is interesting, he doesn’t play for Man United but plays for his national team. The depth isn’t the same, he’s proven his worth when he’s in there and he’s doing well for Scotland.”
January?
The Hammers’ interest in both McTominay and Harry Maguire was widespread, but perhaps West Ham could enquire closer to Christman about the flying Scotsman.
McTominay is the joint-second-top goal scorer for the 2024 Euro qualifiers, equalling his Old Trafford teammate Rasmus Højlund with six goals and with just Romelu Lukaku above him.
While it looks likely that the 26-year-old will have a summer to remember with his national side, he may not have one to remember in Manchester.
Erik ten Hag is seemingly finished with the McTominay and does not see him as a major part of his plans, with the academy graduate making just two substitute appearances this season.

A door could reopen in January for a prospective move unless his Old Trafford fortunes change, but if Ferdinand gets his way he could be off to Stratford.
West Ham’s midfield is stacked after a busy window, so reinforcements will depend on a variety of factors: their league form, their European expectations and any potential injuries.
For now, McTominay remains a Manchester United player, but with plenty of his prime yet to play, he may be eyeing a move in the coming months.
