Richard Keys shocked at West Ham United over David Moyes, demands Karren Brady learn lesson

Richard Keys has told Karren Brady to “learn a lesson from history” and give David Moyes a new West Ham contract.

The beIN Sports host demanded to know what the club are doing in his 4 March blog post after the 3-1 win at Everton over the weekend, pointing to the struggles of the Scot’s former side compared to where they were during his time at Goodison Park.

With Moyes current deal set to expire in the summer Keys insists that his “incredible” work at the London Stadium proves he has to stay past that point.

Keys wrote: “I was pleased to see West Ham record a win that lifts them back into 7th. What are they doing in East London? Why haven’t they put a contract in front of Moyes yet?

“He’s right you know – never have West Ham enjoyed a time like the one he is delivering. Never. What Moyes has done at the club is incredible.

“In some ways it was fitting that he made his point again at Everton. What would they give now for a time when they were finishing in the CL places and taking part in finals? Karen Brady would do well to learn a lesson from history. So would Hammers fans.”

Everton struggles used to illustrate possible downside of David Moyes exit from West Ham

There are certain parallels between the Toffees side of the early 2000s and the current Irons in that they are both hovering just outside the Premier League elite.

But Moyes built his reputation on Merseyside by operating on a strict budget and arguably fighting beyond the clubs’ means at the time, with their problems having come with the spending under Farhad Moshiri since the manager he left in 2013.

He has already already lifted fortunes to similar levels at the London Stadium but it is possibly his inability to get the best out of big money stars in his next job at Manchester United, albeit in unenviable circumstances in following Sir Alex Ferguson, which is more relevant to the argument some West Ham fans have in favour of him leaving.

For the most part the manager hasn’t regularly got the most out of top quality signings with big reputations and rarely plays like his side are the favourites in any game, even when West Ham win.

There is undoubtedly a risk that if Brady, David Sullivan and, potentially, Tim Steidten, let the manager go in the summer his replacement doesn’t match up to his recent achievements.

But, rightly or wrongly, there is some logic to the view that he has reached his ceiling at the club and for those who aspire to pushing further that will never be enough to keep him in place.
