Rice applauded the fans at every stand after 2-1 loss to Brentford

West Ham United were handed a 2-1 defeat by Brentford at the London Stadium on Sunday after a late winner from Yoane Wissa.

The Hammers found themselves behind after Bryan Mbeumo put the Bees ahead 20 minutes into the game, but Jarrod Bowen grabbed his first goal of the campaign with 10 minutes left on the clock to help draw his side level.

West Ham were not able to get a winner or hold on to a point, with Wissa condemning them to a deserved defeat with the last kick of the game.

The players were disappointed after the final whistle, but according to Football London’s journalist Thomas Clark, Declan Rice was the only player who went to all the stands to applaud the supporters.

He posted on his personal Twitter account: “Declan Rice is the only West Ham player to walk to every stand and applaud the fans after the late loss to Brentford.”

Rice has never failed to show that he is captain material, and he proved that this afternoon despite defeat.

That is what leaders are made of, and the young midfielder has continued to show that he is West Ham through and through with some of his simplest acts.

While they would have loved to pick up a win against the promoted side, the Hammers faithful would have been pleased to see one of their own make an effort to appreciate their presence and support.

David Moyes’ side suffered their second league defeat of the season and have only won once in their last five games in the competition.

Heading into the international break on the back of a home defeat leaves a sour taste in their mouths, and things need to change quickly.

Playing in the Europa League might have taken its toll on West Ham players, and most of them will be getting deserved rests in the coming days.

They resume action after the break with a trip to Everton, and a victory at Goodison Park will be a much-needed boost.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign English sensation with 18 goals/assists in 20/21.
