Report: West Ham winger expected to start v Liverpool or Saints
The West Ham United supporters got their first glimpse of January signing Jarrod Bowen against Manchester City last Wednesday.
It was only a 10 minute cameo off the substitute’s bench, which was curious given that the Hammers were 2-0 down and seemingly still vaguely in the game at that point.
However, it was great to see the former Hull City man on the pitch and wearing a West Ham shirt for the first time.
The question now becomes when will he make his full debut for the club, starting a match for the Irons?
The club’s supporters will no doubt want him out there playing from the get-go as soon as possible.
However, Monday’s trip to face the runaway league leaders Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night is far from an ideal first start.
Still, the Evening Standard reported on Monday that the 23-year-old will likely get his first start for the Hammers this week.
They don’t ascertain whether that will be at Anfield or against Southampton at the London Stadium on Saturday, but either way he should get his chance to shine.
Should Bowen start against Liverpool or Saints?
You’d have to say that facing Southampton’s backline would be a much easier bedding-in process than tussling with the Reds’ defence.
Still, there’s something to be said about facing Liverpool and already being up to speed for a must-win encounter with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.
You don’t want to go into the Liverpool clash simply accepting defeat, and so putting Bowen in the starting line-up would surely help counteract that.
However, David Moyes may opt to keep him on the bench once again, with Saturday’s game firmly in his thinking.
In other West Ham news, Moyes has been raving over the improvements made by one Hammers star.
