Report: West Ham turn down double loan swoop

West Ham United have been looking for central midfield help throughout this transfer window, if you believe what you read anyway.

However, they are seemingly remaining rather choosy in terms of what they are looking for, which is strange given the team’s recent recruitment history.

Yet the Daily Star reported on Friday that the east London outfit have turned down the chance to loan two Inter Milan midfielders, Matias Vecino and Valentino Lazaro.

Vecino is a central midfielder who is seemingly involved in the Christian Eriksen deal with Tottenham Hotspur in some capacity.

Lazaro, meanwhile, is a winger who has been attracting interest from Newcastle United and Werder Bremen.

The Hammers seemingly don’t fancy either man, though, while a much talked-about move for Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen isn’t on their radar either, despite him being a long-term target.

Were the Irons right to turn down the Inter duo?

Yes and no.

Lazaro, as a winger, simply isn’t what David Moyes needs at the moment, especially on a loan deal. If he’s going to get an attacking midfielder he’d surely do so in a permanent deal.

There’s no point him helping improve Lazaro only for Inter to benefit. Plus, he’s fairly well-stocked in the attacking midfield positions at the moment.

But Vecino is someone the team could really do with. He’s a quality midfielder who would instantly slot in alongside Declan Rice and massively improve this Hammers team. So, rejecting him feels like a mistake.

In other West Ham news, the club have reportedly established a plan to get a top four star to join them this month.
