Report: West Ham target Marko Arnautovic in talks with Bologna
Journalist Nicolo Schira has claimed that Bologna are in advanced talks to sign former West Ham United striker Marko Arnautovic.
The Austrian has been linked with a shock move back to the London club amid reports that David Moyes fancies a reunion with the player. It’s understood that the Scot still rates the player’s ability despite him plying his trade in China for the last two years.
When Moyes was asked about bringing Arnautovic back to the club, he refused to rule it out, but now that Bologna are in advanced talks with the player, the Hammers are likely to miss out on their man.
The chances of the club signing him appeared bleak even though he was willing to accept a significant pay cut in order to join the East London outfit.
However, once vice-chairman Karren Brady slammed him and his brother-cum-agent for their behaviour to force a West Ham exit in 2019, the reports have died down, with the club understood to be exploring other options.
Good riddance
We couldn’t wait to see the back of these ridiculous Arnautovic links. What was worrying was that Moyes didn’t even rule out the signing as nostalgia seems to remind him things were better than they actually were.
However, he did not leave a happy dressing room at the club and downed tools a few months before he finally got the move he was desperately angling for.
Now, at the twilight of his career, he suddenly fancies a move back to London where he can enjoy life and be a backup striker before he eventually calls it a day.
Thankfully, he’s closing in on a move to Bologna and hopefully, we’re using this time to sign a striker before the Euros.
Clubs usually tend to do most of their transfer business after major international tournaments in the summer, but if we are to get our targets on the cheap, we must act quickly so that Moyes & co. can begin planning for next season.
