Report: West Ham target January move for £3.5m-rated Kai Wagner

West Ham United have enquired over a move for Philadelphia defender Kai Wagner, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper have reported on their website that the Irons are said to challenged by Premier League rivals Fulham for the 23-year-old.

It is suggested that the MLS side value their star left-back at £3.5million after failed stints with both Schalke and Augsburg.

Wagner has been described as one of the best performers in America this season after his standout outings for the Union.

A number of different Premier League scouts are said to have been alerted to his rise with Philadelphia and are interested in making January moves.

The 23-year-old stands at 6’0″ and is seen a player who can fit into club’s with tight budgets during the COVID-19 pandemic.

David Moyes is keen to strengthen his options at left-back and is said to be tempted should Wagner continue his impressive form.

These are exactly the sort of deals that David Gold and Sullivan would love to pursue – in other words, it could be a bargain.

Wagner has impressed, and has also proved that he could be suited to the left-wing back role should he move to the London Stadium.

In his standout performance of the season in a 5-0 win over Toronto, the German delivered two assists, but also made four interceptions and 11 recoveries according to WyScout.

It will be interesting to see if the Hammers bring in Wagner over January, but it could be a smart piece of business if completed.
