Report: West Ham set to offer Vladimir Coufal contract extension

West Ham United are set to reward in-form right-back Vladimir Coufal with a new deal given his stellar performances this season.

The Czech international has been a consistent, albeit underappreciated, part of David Moyes’ side and is set to be given a contract extension, according to Sky Sports.

Signed from Slavia Prague in October for a bargain price of £5m, Coufal has gone from strength to strength to enjoy an exceptional first season in the Premier League.

Despite being on a contract that runs until 2023 with an option to extend for two more years, the West Ham representatives are set to offer an improved deal to ensure that he stays at the club for the foreseeable future.

Tomas Soucek and Aaron Creswell are the only two Hammers outfielders that have played more games than Coufal this season – highlighting his importance to Moyes.

Brilliant news

Coufal joined as a relative unknown in October but has been a revelation ever since. Little did we know that the Czech player would be such an important upgrade on our right-back position.

He’s undoubtedly been one of the best Premier League right-backs this season. Given the fact that it’s his first year in the top flight, we can’t wait for what he has in store for us next term.

Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has also waxed lyrical of the 28-year-old.

After picking him in his Team of the Season on MNF he said, “At right-back I’ve gone for Vladimir Coufal, I love him. He plays week in, week out, has been brilliant and typifies West Ham’s season.”

The Czech international has rewarded Moyes for his faith in him by providing seven assists this term. Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold is the only full-back to have created more chances than Coufal.

Getting him to pen a new deal is a key indicator that the club is moving in the right direction this summer.
