Report: West Ham man missed out v Sheffield United due to illness
West Ham United striker Albian Ajeti certainly hasn’t enjoyed a good time of things in east London since his transfer last summer.
The Switzerland international always seemed like a bit of an afterthought, and he definitely wasn’t fancied by former boss Manuel Pellegrini.
New manager David Moyes hasn’t done much with him yet either, and so when he didn’t make the matchday squad for Friday night’s clash with Sheffield United it was assumed the reason was that Moyes simply didn’t want to select him.
However, it turns out that the truth was rather different. Football London reported that the former Basel man missed out due to illness.
The attacker didn’t train on Thursday and so it was deemed that it was too risky to have him travel with the rest of the squad.
Ajeti has made just two starts, both in the Carabao Cup, since joining and is yet to open his account for the Irons.
West Ham Zone’s View
Look, it’s highly unlikely that Ajeti would have started even if he had been illness-free. He’s barely been a factor this campaign, in all honesty.
But he at least gives Moyes a striking option off the substitute’s bench, which he didn’t have on Friday.
That’s a shame, because Sebastien Haller needs support, that’s for sure.
In other West Ham news, Gary Neville has demanded more from a talented but inconsistent Hammers star.
