Report: West Ham man made top transfer target by PL giants
We’ve all been so preoccupied with the potential incomings at West Ham United this month that we haven’t really considered any outgoings.
Furthermore, the team’s form was so poor in the first half of the season that nobody really expected top sides to come sniffing for the Hammers’ first team stars.
However, that’s just what has happened, apparently. The Daily Express reported on Thursday that Premier League giants Chelsea have made Irons centre back Issa Diop their top transfer target.
The Blues are said to be poised to make a £40million bid for the Frenchman, who is also wanted by London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea have been watching the 22-year-old for some time now, and Frank Lampard wants to secure defensive reinforcements this month.
David Moyes, though, doesn’t want to let the player leave mid-season, and the club value him at around £50million, anyway.
West Ham Zone’s View
£40million certainly wouldn’t be enough to secure Diop’s signature, particularly not in the middle of the campaign.
The youngster hasn’t actually been that great this term, being usurped by veteran Angelo Ogbonna as the Irons’ most reliable centre back.
However, that doesn’t mean the Hammers should sell him, far from it. He’s young and is improving all the time. Unless a truly enormous offer comes in, the club should tell Chelsea where to go.
In other West Ham news, the east London outfit are reported to be mulling recalling a young loan star.
