Report: West Ham man a doubt for Gillingham clash

West Ham United’s FA Cup clash with not-too-distant rivals Gillingham gives David Moyes a chance to build on the momentum of his first game back.

The Scot got a huge reaction from his players in the 4-0 win over Bournemouth on Wednesday, but that could easily evaporate with a cup exit to the League One side on Sunday.

You’d expect some changes from the Cherries win, but Moyes could also be facing a selection headache he really didn’t want.

That’s because reliable Hammers news source Claret & Hugh reported on Saturday that back-up goalkeeper David Martin is a doubt for the Gills clash due to a thigh problem.

Meanwhile number one shot-stopper Lukasz Fabianski missed training earlier this week and is only just back from a substantial injury.

This all means that hapless stopper Roberto could be in line to start yet again for the Irons on Sunday.

West Ham Zone’s View

This is a major issue for Moyes heading into the game at the Priestfield Stadium. In an ideal world he would surely have loved to be able to rest Fabianski on Sunday.

That’s because the Poland international is only just back after a few months out, and so it would make sense to sit him out here.

However, when the only alternative is starting Roberto, that becomes a much less appealing option. This is a tricky one for the Hammers boss.

In other West Ham news, Moyes has dismissed the chances of a former Irons man returning to the club.
