Report – West Ham first teamer set for return to action v Southampton

Arthur Masuaku will be available to play for West Ham against Southampton on Saturday afternoon, according to Claret and Hugh

The 26-year-old missed out on the Hammers’ trip to Anfield on Monday evening due to illness, but was well enough to travel with the team and watched from the stands.

That led to some speculation that he had been dropped for a lack of form, but Football.London revealed earlier in the week that it was a health issue that kept him out.

It is understood, however, that the full-back has recovered fully and has trained this week, opening to door to the prospect of him featuring against the Saints.

How much of a boost will this be for the Hammers?

At this present moment in time, David Moyes needs all hands on deck of his side are to avoid the dreaded drop.

In that respect, having Masuaku back will be a boost.

The defender hasn’t necessarily been one of his side’s best performers in recent weeks, and his outing against Manchester City in particular was pretty poor.

With a pass completion rate of 67%, a dribble completion rate of 50%, and a cross completion rate of 0%, as per Wyscout, he offered very little, and for s side that desperately need to be winning matches, that’s a real worry.

That being said, everybody has off days, and if he is fit and firing, then he surely has to get the nod at left-back.

Who knows, maybe a brief break away from action will prove to be a good thing for him too.
