Report: West Ham fail with goalkeeper approach

West Ham United already needed another goalkeeper to add to their ranks heading into Friday night’s clash with Sheffield United.

But after first choice shot-stopper Lukasz Fabianski went down injured once again in the early goings at Bramall Lane, the Hammers’ need has become desperate.

We don’t yet know the extent of the Pole’s latest problem, but if he’s out for any length of time then a new ‘keeper is required as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, though, it doesn’t look like any new recruit will be named Andrei Radu. That’s because FC Inter News reported on Friday that the Irons failed with an approach for the Romanian.

Radu is currently out on loan at Serie A side Genoa, but has lost his first choice status there. Therefore, Antonio Conte is looking to recall him.

The Serie A league leaders view the 22-year-old as their future between the sticks, and so their ideal solution would be another loan move to a better situation.

Unfortunately for them, the enquiries they’ve received so far – from the Hammers, Arsenal, Nice, Fiorentina and Torino – have all been for permanent deals for the ‘keeper.

West Ham Zone’s View

This is bizarre. West Ham don’t need a new number one, they just need somebody to fill in for Fabianski while he’s injured and serve as his back-up when he returns to fitness.

So a loan move for Radu would make perfect sense for them. Plus, you’d think Fabianski’s injury would’ve actually helped them in that respect, because it increases Radu’s chances of first team football in east London.

You wonder, then, whether the Irons will return with a loan offer for the Romanian? That would certainly make a lot of sense.

In other West Ham news, the club have reportedly told a 22-year-old Hammers to find a new club this month.
