Report: West Ham deal for midfielder has stalled
West Ham United have struggled to get deals done over the years. From William Carvalho to Maxi Gomez, they seem to get in their own way more often than not.
However, as supporters you have to perpetually hope that that trend will somehow reverse itself over time.
Unfortunately, though, it doesn’t look like that’s going to be the case any time soon.
That’s because The Guardian reported on Tuesday that the club’s mooted loan move for Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes has stalled.

Indeed, sources at the east London outfit are thought to be sceptical that a deal will now be completed following the latest round of talks.
The Hammers had been looking to complete an 18-month loan move for the 20-year-old, with an option for a permanent deal, but no progress was made during negotiations on Tuesday.
West Ham Zone’s View
This is just bizarre.
This should be an easy deal to get done. Benfica are prepared to let Fernandes leave following a disagreement with his manager. So West Ham want him and the Eagles are ready to let him go. What’s the hold-up?
The only thing that’s likely delaying this deal is the Irons owners. History has taught us that they don’t like splashing the cash. Even their big money signings last summer were funded by plentiful player sales.
So they are probably quibbling over pennies, which looks set to result in David Moyes missing out on a much-needed central midfield recruit.
In other West Ham news, the club are reportedly close to sorting out a loan exit for a young Hammers starlet.
