Report – West Ham big name has option to extend Hammers deal
Lukasz Fabianski has an option written into his West Ham contract that could see him extend his stay in East London for an extra year, according to Claret & Hugh.
The Hammers stopper’s current deal is due to expire in June of 2021, but it is understood that he could actually stay at the club longer than that without having to pen a new agreement.
The update comes alongside the news that the Irons will not open discussions with players approaching the end of their contracts with the club until after the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic has subsided.
Were Fabianski to agree to his a further extension to his contract, he would remain at with the Irons until he was at least 36.
By that time the Hammers would be hopeful that either Nathan Trott or fellow youth prospect Joseph Anang would be ready to make the step up to the first team.
Should West Ham extend Fabianski’s contract?
Why shouldn’t they?
The Pole is still one of the standout performers in David Moyes’ squad, and it’s hard to see how his talents would diminish drastically enough over the course of the next 18 months to justify him being ousted.
So far this term he has faced an average of 4.32 shots, making 3.02 saves per game with a reflex save rate of 52.6%, as per Wyscout.
As a point of reference, Fabianski has career averages of 4.62, 3.27, and 47.1% in those areas respectively.
In short, he’s not slowing down, and he probably won’t for a long time yet.
Sign him up.
