Report – Senior West Ham man set for 7-figure bonus, on one condition
West Ham are in a relegation battle, let’s make no bones about it.
The Hammers might have expected to be pushing for the upper echelons of the table this season, but instead they find themselves in the bottom three going into their clash with Bournemouth on New Year’s Day following Aston Villa’s win over Burnley.
Ultimately, that’s why David Moyes has been brought in to replace Manuel Pellegrini, with the express intention of repeating the feat that he managed back in 2018 – keeping the club in the top flight after a pretty disastrous start to the season.
Obviously, this time around he has been given a much more permanent contract to work with, rather than the interim deal he was given for his first stint, but it appears that he could be in line for other perks too.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the Scot is set to bank a £2 million bonus if he can keep the Irons in the Premier League this season.
It is also understood that Moyes could be in line to receive greater bonuses dependent on where the Hammers finish in the final Premier League table.
On the face of it this seems like a fairly smart move – after all, there is a reason that bonuses are written into contracts in the first place.
But realistically, does Moyes need the added lure of extra cash to get his backside into gear? Probably not.
This is a man whose reputation has been shot to pieces ever since he left Everton for Manchester United, and the only time at which he’s come anywhere near to arresting that slump is at West Ham.
Now that he has an extended contract and the faith of the board, surely that is all he will need to do his level best.
There is an opportunity for Moyes to resurrect his entire reputation here, money should be the last thing on his mind.
