Report – Moyes set to axe six West Ham talents in major summer shakeup

David Moyes could sell up to six West Ham first team squad members this summer, according Claret & Hugh.

The reliable source suggests that the Hammers could be set for a clear out at the end of the season after a disappointing campaign that has seen them flirt with relegation throughout.

As such, the report claims that David Martin, Ryan Fredericks, Felipe Anderson, Manuel Lanzini, Andriy Yarmolenko, and Albian Ajeti could all be sold as Moyes aims to reshape the squad in his image.

Of that list, Anderson and Lanzini stand out as the two most established Irons names.

Referring to the Brazilian, the report reads: “The manager has barely looked in the Brazilian’s direction since Anfield having gone with a much more aggressive and punchy line up.

“He looks the type of luxury player who doesn’t always fit the manager’s mindset.”

Referencing his Argentinian teammate, it continues: “Not the same player since he came back from that devastating World Cup training injury.

“The manager declared we needed him back to his best soon after arriving but he has now slipped down the pecking order big time.

“What sort of fee we would get however has to be questionable given all that.”

What should we make of this?

You can certainly understand why Moyes might want to mix things up in East London.

This season has been vastly underwhelming, and there have been too many players who simply haven’t hit the heights that they were expected to.

Perhaps the worst offender in that regard has been Lanzini.

The Argentine has averaged 4.02 successful dribbles per game this term, as per Wyscout, down from a career average of 4.87.

Similarly, his shots on target have reduced from 1.83 to 1.39.

In short, he is offering less on the front foot, while also providing less of a cutting edge too.

Unless that changes fast, as sad as it would be to see him go, you could completely understand Moyes’ inclination to offload him.
