Report – Moyes favourite ruled out of West Ham clash v Southampton
West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek is set to miss out on the Hammers’ Premier League clash against Southampton at the weekend, according to Claret & Hugh.
The Czech midfielder was taken off with a knock during the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool on Monday night, and is expected to undergo a scan at some point today.
While there is no specific prognosis just yet, it is believed that the loanee is suffering from a groin or abductor-related injury.
Even though there is no official indication of how bad the the extent of Soucek’s injury is, however, the report suggests that he is definitely set to miss out on the Irons’ must-win meeting with the Saints on Saturday.
Furthermore, the article claims that a club insider fears his lay-off could be as long as a month.
How much of a blow will this be for West Ham?
Potentially huge.
Soucek might not have been in east London for a long time, but he has made a positive impression for the Hammers, and the last thing they need is to be losing players through injury.
Last night, for instance, he was eye-catching enough to draw a barrage of praise from supporters, prior to his injury, that is.
Moreover, David Moyes seems to really like him, and he has been a regular starter since arriving in January.
His rangy presence in the centre of the park is a nice foil to the industrious work rate of Declan Rice and Mark Noble, and having him sidelined will be a real miss.
Here’s hoping things aren’t as bad as first feared.
