Report – Mooted West Ham target allegedly available for £8.3m this summer
Genk are finally willing to sell alleged West Ham target Joakim Maehle, according to Belgian outlet Voetbal Nieuws.
A report from the Daily Star claimed that Hammers were keen on making a move for the Danish right-back in January, but a switch failed to materialise.
Reliable club source ExWHUemployee even went as far as to suggest that the Irons had made a bid for the 22-year-old talent.
But while West Ham were unable to complete the transfer earlier this year, there is an understanding that Genk could be willing to reassess their stance on the player at the end of the campaign.
The report claims that the Champions League side value the defender at around £8.3 million.
Would Maehle be a good signing for the Hammers?
You would be inclined to say yes, definitely.
At 22, he has plenty of potential, and with Champions League experience to boot, there’s a lot to be excited about here.
So far this term he has registered more accurate crosses, more successful dribbles, more interceptions, and more defensive duels won per game than the Hammers’ first choice option in his position, Ryan Fredericks, as per Wyscout.
If the price tag of £8.3 million proves to be correct then there’s no reason to believe that Maehle could be an absolute steal.
Of course, his arrival would probably block the progression of youngsters Jeremy Ngakia and Ben Johnson, but if Moyes doesn’t believe that either of them are ready to step up to the first team, and if Fredericks is seen as a replaceable asset, then this deal could be a goer.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes has ‘run out’ of patience with Hammers big name.
